Wike: 70% of FCT Projects Completed Under Tinubu Were Abandoned Contracts Dating Back 16 Years

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says about 70 per cent of projects completed by the FCT Administration under President Bola Tinubu were contracts awarded between 15 and 16 years ago but abandoned by previous administrations.
Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Wike said the decision to complete inherited projects was guided by President Tinubu’s directive that viable government projects should not be abandoned.
"The President said we can’t abandon old projects. While we cannot abandon old projects, we must also carry out new ones," the minister said.
According to Wike, the FCT Administration deliberately prioritised abandoned projects to ensure that public funds already committed to them were not wasted while delivering critical infrastructure to residents.
He explained that many of the projects executed over the past three years had remained uncompleted for more than a decade before the current administration revived them.
"About 60 per cent of the projects executed in the last three years were originally awarded 15 to 16 years ago but had been abandoned. We have now completed not less than 70 per cent of those projects," he said.
The minister noted that, alongside completing inherited contracts, the administration has also initiated new road and infrastructure projects across Abuja and several satellite towns.
Wike attributed the pace of infrastructure delivery to President Tinubu’s support, particularly the decision to remove the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), a move he said has improved access to funding for capital projects.
He added that the administration would continue investing in infrastructure aimed at improving transportation, opening up new districts and enhancing the quality of life for residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
