Three Killed In Fresh Attack On Plateau Community As BYM Raises Alarm

Three people have been killed in a fresh attack on Torok community in Rim District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) has said.

The association said the attack occurred at about 5:23 p.m on Wednesday, raising fresh concerns over the recurring violence in parts of the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the National Publicity Secretary of BYM, Rwang Tengwong, identified the victims as Ezekiel Zakka, David Yakubu and Dauda Habila.

The association condemned the killings and extended its condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Torok and the entire Berom community.

"This latest massacre is another painful reminder of the worsening security situation facing Berom communities," the statement said.

"It is deeply disturbing that innocent citizens continue to be killed while the perpetrators repeatedly evade arrest and justice."

According to the group, the recurring attacks are no longer isolated incidents but part of a disturbing pattern that requires urgent and decisive action from security agencies.

The association called on security agencies to immediately launch a comprehensive operation to apprehend those responsible for the attack.

BYM alleged that the attackers came from a Fulani settlement at Bangai and urged authorities to ensure that everyone found culpable is arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

"Anything short of this will only embolden criminal elements to continue their campaign of terror against innocent communities," the statement added.

The association also appealed to both the Plateau State Government and the Federal Government to move beyond routine condemnations and implement concrete measures to protect communities vulnerable to attacks.

It urged authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering, maintain sustained deployment of security personnel to identified flashpoints and dismantle criminal hideouts allegedly serving as operational bases for attackers.

According to the association, every Nigerian has a constitutional right to life and security, regardless of where they reside.

While calling for justice for the victims, BYM appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding.

The association urged members of affected communities to continue providing credible and timely intelligence to security agencies to help prevent further attacks.

"We will continue to advocate relentlessly for justice for the victims, the arrest and prosecution of the attackers, and lasting peace and security across Berom land," the statement said.

No official statement had been issued by security agencies on the reported attack as of the time of filing this report.
