The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly kidnapping a five-year-old girl and demanding a ₦10 million ransom from her family in Ibadan.
The suspects, identified as Adegboye Seyi Sunday and Adegboye Elijah Adefemi, were arrested by operatives of the command's Anti-Kidnapping Squad following a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
The victim, Fikayo Gbemiga, was abducted on July 3, 2026, from her family's residence in the Iyana Offa area of Ibadan.
In a statement issued , the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, speaking through the command's spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, said investigators deployed technological tools and other intelligence-gathering techniques to trace and apprehend the suspects.
According to the statement, the operation led to the arrest of the suspects at about 10:30 p.m. on July 11 at their hideout in the Mojoyin Molade area of Iwo Road, Ibadan.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly gained unlawful access to the complainant's residence before abducting the child and demanding ₦10 million for her release.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives stormed the hideout and successfully rescued the five-year-old victim unharmed at about 10:35 p.m.
The police said the swift operation also prevented the suspects from relocating the child or fleeing the area.
Investigators further discovered that the suspects had allegedly received ₦1 million as part of the ransom payment in Gbongan, Osun State, on the penultimate Wednesday.
The command said the suspects are cooperating with investigators, while efforts are ongoing to recover the ransom already collected and arrest other members of the kidnapping syndicate who remain at large.
