In what police described as a brutal attack, an 18-month-old girl was killed at a farm near Idanre, Ondo State, leading to the arrest and arraignment of a suspect.
The girl’s father, peasant farmer, Bright Kalu, said the incident happened on Monday, June 8, 2026. He had left his wife caring for their four children at their farm camp while he went to buy food items at a nearby settlement.
“I was returning from a nearby camp when I met my wife looking troubled and distressed,” Kalu said. “She told me someone had attacked the camp and she was able to rescue three of our children, but one was missing.”
Kalu and his elder brother Ifeanyi searched the area and later found the child’s lifeless body behind their house.
The case was first reported at Olofin Police Station in Idanre before it was transferred to the State Police Headquarters in Akure for further investigation.
Ondo State Police Command spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh confirmed the incident Wednesday. He said a suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing and has been charged to court.
The command did not release the suspect’s identity as investigation continues.
