1-0: Ghana Break Panama’s Hearts in Stoppage Time

Ghana secured a dramatic 1–0 victory over Panama after Caleb Yirenkyi struck in the 95th minute to seal all three points in a tense Group L encounter in Toronto.

In a match of limited clear chances, Panama came closest early on when Cecilio Waterman forced Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi into a sharp save inside the opening minutes.

The Black Stars struggled to assert control for long spells, while Panama remained dangerous on the break and created several promising openings.

The breakthrough eventually arrived deep into stoppage time. Brandon Thomas-Asante drove down the left flank, beat his marker and delivered a low cross into the box, where Yirenkyi calmly tapped home to break Panamanian resistance.
The late goal proved harsh on Panama, who had been seconds away from earning their first-ever World Cup point.

Ghana’s goalkeeper Ati-Zigi was later forced off injured in the second half, with Benjamin Asare coming on as his replacement.
Despite a disjointed attacking display, Ghana held on for a vital opening win in Group L and now turn their attention to a tough fixture against England in Boston.
