Radda Urges Bloggers, Influencers to Report Insecurity Responsibly

Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has called on bloggers, media influencers and online content creators to exercise greater responsibility when reporting security-related issues, warning that the circulation of disturbing content involving kidnap victims can undermine efforts to tackle insecurity.

Speaking after engagements with Islamic clerics and key stakeholders at Government House Katsina, the governor said the media has a critical role to play in supporting security operations and promoting public awareness.

Radda expressed concern over the growing trend of sharing videos and images of abducted persons while they remain in captivity, describing the practice as both unethical and harmful.

According to him, such content often deepens the emotional trauma experienced by victims families and may inadvertently interfere with ongoing rescue efforts.

"I want to call on media influencers and bloggers to play a responsible role in tackling insecurity. They have a key part to play, but some misuse their platforms by sharing disturbing videos of victims while in captivity," the governor said.

The governor also disclosed that President Bola Tinubu had approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to strengthen surveillance and security operations across vulnerable communities in Katsina State.

He said responsible reporting remains essential to protecting victims' dignity while supporting the broader objective of restoring peace and security.
