Erling Haaland needed less than half an hour to make his mark on the FIFA World Cup. The Manchester City striker scored twice on his tournament debut as Norway opened their Group I campaign with a convincing 4-1 victory over Iraq in Boston.
Making his first appearance at a World Cup and helping Norway compete in the tournament for the first time since 1998, Haaland once again demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the most feared goalscorers in world football.
After a relatively quiet opening period, the striker broke the deadlock in the 28th minute, arriving perfectly to convert a square pass from David Moller Wolfe. The goal was his 51st for Norway in just 56 senior international appearances.

Iraq responded admirably. Their captain, Aymen Hussein, rose highest to head home a superb equaliser, registering Iraq's first World Cup goal in four decades and only the nation's second in tournament history.
However, the parity lasted only briefly.
Just before half-time, Haaland capitalised on a defensive mistake, chasing down a weak back pass before rounding the goalkeeper and finishing calmly to restore Norway's advantage.

The second half lacked the frenetic pace of the opening period, but Norway remained in control.
With 14 minutes remaining, substitute Leo Ostigard met Martin Odegaard's corner with a powerful header to make it 3-1 and effectively settle the contest.
Deep into stoppage time, Norway added a fourth when Hussein inadvertently turned Haaland's header into his own net.
The result gives Stale Solbakken's side a perfect start to their World Cup campaign and reinforces Haaland's credentials as one of the favourites for the Golden Boot award.
For Norway, the return to football's biggest stage could hardly have begun in more convincing fashion.
