Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to democratic values, patriotism and peaceful coexistence as the country marks Democracy Day.
In a statement issued to commemorate June 12, the governor described democracy as a continuous journey that requires the collective effort, sacrifice and understanding of citizens.
He urged residents of Kebbi State and Nigerians generally to remain patient and supportive of government policies designed to promote long-term development and economic growth.
According to Idris, sustaining democracy requires constant prayers for peace, stability and national progress.
The governor stressed the importance of obeying the rule of law, respecting constituted authority and avoiding actions capable of undermining public order.
“A peaceful and law-abiding society is the foundation upon which democracy thrives,” he said.
He also highlighted several initiatives undertaken by his administration, including investments in road infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, water supply and social welfare programmes.
The governor reiterated his commitment to improving the quality of life of residents through people-centred policies and development projects.
On security, Idris said Kebbi State has made significant progress in combating banditry and other criminal activities through collaboration between security agencies, traditional institutions and local communities.
He pledged continued support for security operations and community-based initiatives aimed at preserving peace across the state.
The governor also urged citizens to place national interests above personal considerations, noting that democracy gives Nigerians the opportunity to shape their collective future through participation and responsible citizenship.
