Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the national leadership of the Accord Party have adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as their preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The decision was reached during a meeting between the governor and the party's national leadership in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Saturday night.

A statement issued by Adeleke's re-election campaign spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said the meeting focused on issues affecting the party and broader national concerns.

The Accord leadership, according to the statement, expressed support for the continuation of the Tinubu administration, particularly to enable the Federal Government to complete major infrastructure projects already under construction across the country.

Among the projects cited were the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway.

The party leaders argued that completing ongoing projects would help ensure that investments already made by the government translate into tangible benefits for Nigerians.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for the August 2026 governorship election in Osun State, with the Accord leadership calling on political actors and security agencies to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

The party specifically warned against violence, intimidation, electoral manipulation and the alleged misuse of security personnel against its members during the poll.

The meeting was attended by several members of the Accord Party's national leadership, including National Chairman Maxwell Mgbudem; Deputy National Chairman, Maryam Sale; National Secretary, Ajaja Abiola Adebukola; National Treasurer, Abdulazeez Oyeniyi Salaudeen; National Organising Secretary, Ibe Thankgod; and National Publicity Secretary, Omorogbe Joseph.

State chairmen of the party from across the country were also present.

The endorsement of Tinubu by the Accord leadership and Governor Adeleke represents a significant political development ahead of the 2027 presidential election, coming as political parties and major political figures continue to realign and build alliances ahead of the contest.

The development also adds a new dimension to the evolving political landscape in Osun, where attention is currently focused on the forthcoming governorship election and the battle for political influence in the state.

The endorsement comes less than a year before political parties are expected to intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections. It also follows the recent constitution of the APC's National Campaign Council for the August 15 Osun governorship election, underscoring growing political activity ahead of both the off-cycle poll and the next presidential contest.
