Oyo 2027: APC Uploads Sharafadeen Alli's Name to INEC Portal Despite Objection By Aggrieved Aspirants

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has uploaded the name of llto the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal as its governorship candidate for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, effectively putting to rest disputes that followed the party's primary.

Alli's running mate, Adesoji Adedeji, was also uploaded to the electoral body's portal, confirming the party's ticket ahead of the election.

The development comes after weeks of uncertainty, with some aggrieved aspirants, including former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, insisting there was no valid APC governorship candidate in the state despite Alli's emergence from the primary and his subsequent presentation with a certificate of return.

Adelabu had maintained that the outcome of the primary would be overturned through an appeal to the APC National Secretariat. However, the submission of Alli's particulars to INEC signals the party's recognition of him as its flag bearer.

The APC has also resolved disputes arising from governorship primaries in other states, including Kwara, Adamawa and Bauchi, as it continues the process of submitting candidates for the 2027 elections.

Party sources said the APC has uploaded the names of its governorship candidates and their running mates in 27 of the 28 states where governorship elections will be held.

The only outstanding state is in the Northeast, where the choice of a deputy governorship candidate is expected to be finalised at a stakeholders' meeting in Abuja. The party added that the issue involves selecting a replacement for a serving deputy governor who has completed two terms.

INEC has fixed August 8 as the deadline for political parties to submit the names of their governorship and House of Assembly candidates.

Beyond Oyo, the APC also uploaded the names of its governorship candidates for several other states, including Yakubu Danladi Salihu (Kwara), Ahmed Tijani Galadima (Adamawa), Mohammed Abubakar (Bauchi), Obafemi Hamzat (Lagos), Solomon Adeola (Ogun), Kingsley Chinda (Rivers), Eric Opah (Abia), Mustapha Gubio (Borno), Jamilu Gwamna (Gombe), Aliyu Wadada (Nasarawa) and Baba Malam Wali (Yobe).

The party said it has submitted the particulars of its governorship candidates and running mates in 27 of the 28 states where governorship elections will be held, with only one Northeast state still outstanding due to the selection of a deputy governorship candidate. APC officials expressed confidence that the remaining issue would be resolved before the August 8 deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the submission of governorship and House of Assembly candidates.
