Two people have been confirmed dead following a fatal road crash involving a truck and a commercial bus along the Sagamu–Ore Expressway in Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, said the accident occurred at about 5:10 a.m on Thursday at Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere–J4 corridor of the expressway.

According to a statement issued by the Ogun State Sector Command's Public Relations Officer, Florence Afolabi Odunsi, the crash involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC 660 XC and an orange Peugeot J5 commercial bus with no visible registration number.

The FRSC said four adult male occupants were involved in the crash. Two of them died, while the remaining two escaped unhurt.

Preliminary investigations by the corps indicate that suspected route violation and excessive speeding were responsible for the collision.

The impact of the crash caused the Peugeot J5 bus to burst into flames, leaving its front section completely burnt.

FRSC rescue operatives arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately commenced rescue and traffic control operations.

To ease traffic congestion, officials diverted motorists to an alternative carriageway while emergency responders worked to remove the wreckage from the road. The bodies of the deceased were evacuated by officers of the Nigeria Police Force's Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at a nearby mortuary.

Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

He urged motorists to obey traffic regulations at all times, warning against speeding and route violations, particularly during periods of poor visibility and on wet roads.

According to the sector commander, reckless driving remains one of the leading causes of fatal road crashes across the country.

The FRSC reiterated its commitment to reducing road traffic crashes through sustained enforcement of traffic laws, public enlightenment campaigns and prompt emergency rescue services.
