The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ekiti State, Bunmi Omoseyinde, has dismissed allegations of intimidation and misconduct during the ongoing governorship election, insisting that the process has so far remained peaceful, credible and inclusive.

Omoseyinde spoke with journalists at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Ado-Ekiti while responding to concerns raised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Wole Oluyede.

Oluyede had earlier alleged that he was intimidated by police officers at his polling unit, Osagulu Hall, Ward 3 Unit 6, describing the conduct of some security operatives as a major concern in the electoral process.

Reacting to the allegation, the REC said INEC was focused on verified reports and developments from the field rather than unsubstantiated claims.

“Tell me facts, not allegations,” Omoseyinde said while addressing journalists.

According to him, reports received from across the state indicate that the election has been conducted in a peaceful atmosphere, with no officially recorded incidents of violence.

The REC maintained that the commission had taken deliberate steps to ensure that all eligible voters, including Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) and elderly citizens, were able to participate in the election without hindrance.

He also commended voters for their turnout and conduct during the exercise, describing the level of participation witnessed across polling units as encouraging.

Omoseyinde further praised election officials, security agencies and other stakeholders for their roles in ensuring a smooth electoral process.

His comments come amid growing political exchanges between major parties over the conduct of the election, even as voting continues across the state's 16 local government areas.
