Ekiti Election: Fayose Sees Comfortable Re-Election for Oyebanji

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has predicted victory for incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji in Saturday’s governorship election, declaring that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate enjoys overwhelming support across the state.

Fayose made the remark shortly after casting his vote at Polling Unit 1, Afao-Ekiti, in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area.

Speaking with journalists after voting, the former governor said the political atmosphere and mood of voters suggest that Oyebanji is on course for a comfortable re-election victory.

“Oyebanji has already won the election,” Fayose declared.

According to him, public sentiment across Ekiti State appears firmly in favour of the incumbent governor.

“If you look at the state of things in the state and the body language of the people, I am predicting an overwhelming victory for him,” he added.

Fayose’s comments are particularly significant because he remains one of the most influential figures within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is fielding Wole Oluyede as its candidate in the governorship contest.

The former governor has, however, repeatedly expressed support for Oyebanji’s administration and openly endorsed the APC governor’s re-election bid in the months leading up to the poll.

His latest remarks further underscore the unusual political alignment that has emerged between Fayose and the APC-led government in Ekiti State, despite their party differences.

Fayose served as governor of Ekiti State between 2003 and 2006, and later returned for a second term from 2014 to 2018 under the PDP platform.

His endorsement comes as voting continues across the state's 16 local government areas amid tight security and heightened political interest.
