The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the upload of polling unit results from the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
Results began appearing on the portal at about 4:10 p.m on Saturday following concerns raised by political parties, observers and other stakeholders over delays in making polling unit outcomes available online.
One of the early results uploaded showed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, defeating the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Ambassador Dare Bejide, at Polling Unit 4 Ward 2, in Ekiti South West Local Government Area.
According to the uploaded result, Oyebanji secured 140 votes, while Bejide polled 37 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received two votes at the polling unit.
As of the time of filing this report, only about 20 per cent of polling unit results had been uploaded to the IReV portal, with the process expected to continue as results arrive from across the state's 16 local government areas.
The IReV portal was introduced by INEC to enhance transparency in the electoral process by allowing the public to view polling unit results in real time as they are uploaded by election officials.
Collation of results is ongoing across the state.
