Security operatives have foiled an attempted intrusion into the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, after detecting suspicious movement around the facility in the early hours of Monday.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 1:30 a.m, when security personnel on routine duty noticed suspicious activity around the perimeter of the institute and immediately moved to secure the area.

According to sources familiar with the incident, the swift response by security operatives forced the suspected intruders to abandon their mission and flee into nearby bushes before they could gain access to the facility.

No casualties were recorded during the incident, and there was no reported damage to the institute. Activities at NIPSS continued without disruption.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from security authorities.

Efforts to obtain comments from the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo and the spokesman for Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycarp Oteh, were unsuccessful.

Similarly, the management of NIPSS had yet to comment on the attempted intrusion.

The latest security scare comes less than two weeks after the Federal Government ordered an immediate review and strengthening of security arrangements at NIPSS and other critical national institutions following an earlier security incident at the institute.

During a recent visit to NIPSS, Vice President Kashim Shettima said the directive reflected President Bola Tinubu's commitment to protecting strategic national assets and preventing future security breaches.

According to the Vice President, measures being implemented include enhanced surveillance systems, stronger perimeter fencing, tighter access control procedures and increased deployment of security personnel.

Shettima also assured that individuals responsible for previous security incidents involving the institute would be identified and brought to justice.

The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, located in Kuru near Jos, is Nigeria's foremost policy think tank and regularly hosts senior government officials, military officers, security personnel and private sector leaders for strategic policy and leadership training.
