APC candidate records 326 votes at his polling unit while the ruling party also secures victory in Ward 2 of Ekiti South-West, home ward of ADC candidate Dare Bejide.
Ekiti State Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Biodun Oyebanji, has secured a landslide victory at his polling unit in the ongoing governorship election, as early results from parts of the state indicate strong support for the incumbent.
Results announced at Polling Unit 003, Ward 06 Okelele, Ikogosi-Ekiti, showed that Oyebanji's APC polled 326 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) secured two votes, while the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and the African Action Congress (AAC) recorded one vote each. Three votes were declared invalid.
The result underscored Oyebanji's dominance in his home polling unit as he seeks a second term in office.
The governor cast his vote alongside his wife, Olayemi Oyebanji, at about 11:38 a.m. on Saturday.
Speaking after voting, Oyebanji expressed confidence in his chances at the poll and predicted that the APC would surpass its target of 500,000 votes across the state.
He also commended voter turnout and appealed for patience amid reports of technical glitches in some polling units.
According to the governor, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had assured him that all eligible voters who turned out for the election would be allowed to vote despite the challenges.
In related development, the APC defeated the ADC candidate, Ambassador Dare Bejide, in his own ward in Ekiti South-West Local Government Area.
Bejide, who hails from Ward 2 in the council area, lost Polling Unit 004, where the APC polled 140 votes against the ADC's 37 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured two votes.
The outcome handed the APC an early advantage in the area as collation of results continued across the state's 16 local government areas.
The result from Polling Unit 004, Ward 2, Ekiti South-West Local Government Area was as follows:
APC: 140 votes
ADC: 37 votes
PDP: 2 votes
Saturday's governorship election is being closely watched by political stakeholders and observers, with voters deciding who will govern Ekiti State for the next four years.
As collation progresses, the early results are expected to boost confidence among APC supporters while parties await the release of additional polling unit results from across the state.
