The Nigerian Air Force has intensified its ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in the North-East, launching fresh precision airstrikes against terrorist enclaves within the Sambisa Forest axis of Borno State.
The operation, carried out through the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, targeted identified insurgent strongholds and logistics facilities in Biramiri, located within the Gezuwa general area of the state. According to a statement released by the Nigerian Air Force on Tuesday, the strikes were conducted on May 26, 2026, following credible Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance reports indicating renewed terrorist activities within the area.
Military authorities disclosed that the operation led to the destruction of key terrorist infrastructure while several fighters were also neutralised during the bombardment.
The Air Force described the strikes as part of sustained efforts to cripple the operational capacity of insurgents still operating within the Sambisa corridor and surrounding territories. “The coordinated attacks destroyed key terrorist facilities and neutralised several fighters, further crippling the operational capacity of the insurgents,” the statement read.
The Sambisa Forest region has remained one of the major operational strongholds for insurgent groups operating in Nigeria’s North-East, particularly factions linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Security analysts have repeatedly identified the area as a strategic base used for training, logistics coordination, movement of fighters and storage of weapons. The latest air offensive forms part of ongoing coordinated military operations aimed at weakening insurgent networks, cutting off supply chains and preventing regrouping attempts by terrorist cells across Borno State.
Military authorities have maintained that the Nigerian Armed Forces will continue to intensify both aerial and ground offensives until insurgent activities are fully dismantled.
The renewed bombardment also comes amid growing concerns over sporadic attacks and attempted resurgences by armed groups in parts of the North-East despite years of sustained military operations.
