Security agencies have launched a manhunt for suspected bandits who abducted six students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, during a night attack on an off-campus residence in Zamfara State.

The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident on Wednesday, saying the attack occurred in the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda town.

Police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, disclosed that seven students were initially taken by the gunmen, but one of the victims later managed to escape.

According to him, six students remain in captivity while efforts are underway to secure their release.

Abubakar explained that the attackers targeted a private residence occupied by students rather than the institution itself.

“The school premises have been fortified with adequate security personnel, making it extremely difficult for bandits to penetrate,” he said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers may have taken advantage of an unlocked entrance during the night.

“One of the students reportedly stepped outside and inadvertently left the door open. Coincidentally, bandits passing through the area entered the house and abducted the occupants,” Abubakar stated.

The police spokesman said operatives from the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) have joined forces with troops of Operation Fansan Yamma to track the abductors and rescue the victims.

Security personnel have since intensified surveillance and search operations around Kaura Namoda and adjoining communities.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over the security situation in parts of northern Nigeria, where schools and student communities have repeatedly come under attack from armed groups.

Authorities have assured parents and residents that all available resources are being deployed to ensure the safe return of the abducted students and the arrest of those responsible.
