The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has intensified efforts to strengthen Nigeria's automotive industry through a strategic partnership with the Automotive Local Content Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (ALCMAN) and China's Heija Industrial Group to develop a National Auto Parts Digital Platform.

The initiative was the focus of a high-level meeting held on Friday at the Council's headquarters in Abuja, where stakeholders discussed plans to establish a centralized digital database for Nigerian automotive component manufacturers and suppliers.

According to the Council, the platform is expected to improve access to reliable industry data, promote locally manufactured automotive components, curb the circulation of counterfeit spare parts and provide investors and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) with credible information on Nigeria's automotive market.

Speaking during the meeting, ALCMAN National Chairman, Chief Anslem Ilekuba, said the project aligns with NADDC's drive to expand local component manufacturing through technology transfer and strategic international partnerships.

He noted that inadequate industry data has remained a major obstacle to attracting investment into Nigeria's automotive sector, adding that the platform would provide verified information on manufacturers, production capacity and available opportunities.

Ilekuba disclosed that more than 4,500 Chinese automotive manufacturers have indicated interest in joining the platform through ALCMAN's collaboration with the Heija Industrial Group, a development expected to deepen technology transfer and industrial cooperation between Nigeria and China.

Representatives of the Heija Industrial Group presented the proposed framework for the digital platform, while officials from relevant government agencies made technical contributions aimed at strengthening the initiative.

In his remarks, the Director-General of NADDC, Oluwemimo Osanipin, described the initiative as a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen Nigeria's automotive value chain.

Osanipin said credible industry data remains critical to attracting investment, expanding local manufacturing and positioning Nigeria as a competitive automotive hub in Africa.

He also requested a comprehensive implementation framework to enable the Council to undertake a detailed technical review of the proposal.

The NADDC boss reaffirmed the Council's commitment to promoting local content development, facilitating investment, encouraging technology transfer and supporting the production of globally competitive Made-in-Nigeria automotive components.
