Ogbomoso Erupts in Celebration After Release of Abducted Schoolchildren and Teachers
Residents of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, erupted in celebration on Friday following the release of the schoolchildren and teachers who were abducted from Oriire Local Government Area more than two months ago.
Scenes of jubilation were witnessed across parts of the ancient town as news of the victims' rescue spread, with residents expressing relief after weeks of anxiety over their safety.
Families, community leaders and well-wishers welcomed the development, describing the victims' return as a moment of answered prayers and renewed hope for the affected communities.
The pupils and teachers had spent 56 days in captivity after they were abducted while travelling through Oriire Local Government Area, an incident that sparked widespread concern and calls for intensified rescue efforts.
The federal government confirmed that the victims were rescued during a coordinated operation involving the military, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force. The operation also reportedly led to the arrest of eight suspects, while other members of the group were neutralised.
