Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed immense relief and joy following the rescue of the pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area of the state after spending 56 days in captivity.
Reacting shortly after the victims regained their freedom, the governor in a televised interview described the development as a moment of great relief for the state, the affected families and all those who had anxiously awaited their safe return.
"It is such a big relief for all of us. Just right now, I am overjoyed and can hardly say much," Makinde said.
The governor's reaction came after security operatives successfully rescued the abducted schoolchildren and teachers, bringing an end to weeks of anxiety and uncertainty that had gripped the state.
The abduction, which occurred in May, drew widespread condemnation and renewed concerns over the security of schools and communities in Oyo State.
During the period of captivity, the state government repeatedly assured residents that it was working closely with security agencies to secure the victims' safe release.
