Manchester City have officially appointed Enzo Maresca as the club's new manager, ending weeks of speculation over Pep Guardiola's successor following the Spaniard's departure after a trophy-laden decade at the Etihad Stadium.

The Italian has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at Manchester City until the summer of 2029, marking his third spell with the Premier League champions.

Maresca returns to familiar territory after previously managing City's Elite Development Squad before serving as one of Guardiola's assistant coaches during the club's historic treble-winning campaign.

Speaking after his appointment, the 46-year-old described his return to the Etihad as a special moment in his coaching career.

"Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me.

"City is an incredibly well-run football club. Everything they do is innovative, planned and purposeful. For a manager, that is a dream situation. It provides the consistency I need to do my job effectively.

"This will be my third spell here. I know this Club, I know the demands and I know the expectations.

"The quality of the people who work here is what makes it so special, and I want to thank them for showing faith in my ability.

"I cannot wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play good football and enjoy the pressure of representing Manchester City."

Maresca takes charge after Guardiola's remarkable 10-year reign, during which the Spaniard transformed Manchester City into one of Europe's dominant clubs, winning six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League and a total of 20 major trophies.

The appointment represents a homecoming for the Italian, who has steadily built his managerial reputation over the past five years.

After beginning his managerial career with Parma, Maresca guided Leicester City back to the Premier League before joining Chelsea, where he won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup. However, he left Stamford Bridge in January after agreeing to take over from Guardiola at City.

Manchester City reportedly reached a compensation agreement with Chelsea to secure the Italian's release from his contract before confirming the appointment.

Maresca now faces the formidable challenge of succeeding one of football's greatest managers while maintaining the winning culture Guardiola established at the Etihad.

His immediate focus will be preparing City for the new campaign as supporters eagerly await the beginning of a new era under a coach already familiar with the club's philosophy, expectations and relentless pursuit of success.
