In a flawless display of political consolidation, the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, has been officially declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election, confirming his position as the party's undisputed flagbearer for the 2027 general elections.
The results were officially presented to the public at the APC State Secretariat in Calabar by the Chairman of the Cross River Primary Election Committee, Mr. Samuel Yarnap. Running entirely unopposed, Governor Otu gathered a total of 116,038 votes across 196 wards spanning all 18 local government areas of the South-South state.
Yarnap lauded the party faithful for their exceptional, peaceful conduct, drawing a sharp contrast between Cross River’s internal harmony and the fractious, crisis-ridden primaries that played out in several other states across the federation.
"I am not surprised that these primaries were completely peaceful, as we witnessed the exact same maturity during our previous party congresses," Yarnap remarked. "All processes were successful. While other states suffered internal crises, Cross River experienced none. Aggrieved members must support the winners and the winners must constantly remember they carry the sacred mandate of the people."
Accepting the nomination, Governor Otu reached out to all factions and individuals within the political family, stressing that the party infrastructure holds more than enough room for diverse interests to be satisfied without resorting to sabotage.
"My absolute commitment is to move Cross River State forward without fear, favor or prejudice," the Governor declared, urging party members to dismantle any lingering grievances.
Alongside the gubernatorial declaration, the primary election committee fully released the official results for the State House of Assembly and National Assembly primaries, signaling that the state chapter has established a unified legislative and executive lineup well ahead of the 2027 campaign cycle.
