Ahmed Tijjani Galadima has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State after winning the party’s closely contested primary election.
The result was announced on Friday by the chairman of the APC primary election committee, Innocent Bariko, following the collation and verification of votes from across the state.
Official figures released by the committee showed that Galadima secured 414,444 votes to clinch the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Former presidential aide and lawmaker Abdulrazak Namdas finished second with 86,004 votes, while businessman and prominent aspirant Bashir Haske polled 65,424 votes to place third.
Galadima’s victory came amid intense competition within the ruling party and surprised some political observers after unofficial projections earlier in the exercise indicated that Haske was leading in several voting areas during the initial stages of counting.
The primary was widely viewed as one of the most significant internal contests within the APC in Adamawa in recent years, reflecting growing political realignments and heightened competition among influential stakeholders ahead of the next election cycle.
Political analysts say the outcome could reshape the balance of power within the party and influence broader political calculations in Adamawa as preparations for the 2027 governorship election gradually intensify.
Supporters of Galadima reportedly celebrated across parts of the state shortly after the declaration, describing the result as a strategic victory for the APC’s ambitions in Adamawa.
Party leaders are now expected to begin reconciliation efforts aimed at unifying supporters of rival aspirants and preventing internal divisions ahead of the general election campaign season.
The APC is seeking to consolidate its political influence in Adamawa, where competition among major parties is expected to intensify in the lead-up to the 2027 polls.
