
FG Declares Two-Day Public Holiday for Eid ul Adha 2026

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid ul Adha celebration. The announcement was made in Abuja through a statement issued by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
According to the minister, the declaration reflects Nigeria’s recognition of the spiritual significance of Eid ul Adha and the importance of the festival to Muslims across the country and around the world.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful in Nigeria and the diaspora, urging them to embrace the values of sacrifice, obedience, compassion and peaceful coexistence which the festival symbolises. He described Eid ul Adha as one of the most important observances in Islam, rooted in faith, devotion and submission to the will of God.
The minister also encouraged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for national unity, peace, economic stability and continued progress across the country. He further called on citizens to demonstrate love, tolerance and support for one another during the celebration period.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to promoting religious harmony and ensuring an atmosphere of peace and security during the festivities nationwide.
