El-Rufai Returns To Court As Corruption Trial Continues

By OUR REPORTER · 15/06/2026 10:34 AM · 2 min read

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai appeared before the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Monday as proceedings resumed in his ongoing corruption trial.

El-Rufai arrived at the court premises at about 9:30 a.m, accompanied by officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

The former governor is facing allegations of abuse of office, fraud and financial misconduct during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State. According to the prosecution, public funds were allegedly released for projects that were either not executed or improperly managed.

El-Rufai has consistently denied the allegations and maintains that he is innocent of all charges brought against him.

At Monday's proceedings, the court was expected to continue hearing applications and arguments from both the prosecution and defence teams as the matter progresses.

The case has attracted significant public attention due to El-Rufai's prominent role in national politics and his influence within the country's political landscape.

Earlier in April, Justice Rilwan Aikawa granted the former governor bail in the sum of ₦200 million with strict conditions, including two sureties, one a serving or retired Grade Level 15 civil servant and the other a recognised traditional ruler.

The trial is expected to continue in the coming weeks as the court considers evidence and arguments presented by both sides.
