The Anambra State Government has confirmed that the 10-year-old boy who was allegedly tortured by his guardians in Awada Obosi, is now under state protection and receiving medical treatment.

The case, which sparked widespread outrage after disturbing videos circulated on social media, occurred in Idemili North Local Government Area. In the viral footage, the child was seen with severe scalding injuries covering large parts of his body, allegedly inflicted by a woman and her husband who were said to be his guardians.

Residents of Awada reportedly stormed the suspects residence after the incident became public, condemning the alleged torture and demanding justice for the boy.

Anambra’s Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare said the state government had intervened immediately after the case was brought to its attention.

“I want to thank the good, caring people of Anambra for bringing this case to our notice. The boy is receiving treatment now. My team and the Obosi community woman leader visited him,” the official said.

“The offenders must face the law for this barbaric act. If you see something, please say something.”

The government did not disclose the exact circumstances that led to the abuse, but assured residents that the suspects would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Authorities also appealed to members of the public to continue reporting cases of child abuse, domestic violence and other forms of maltreatment to relevant agencies.

The incident has reignited concerns about child protection and the need for stronger enforcement of laws against abuse and torture of minors in Nigeria.
