Ekiti Decides: Mixed Compliance Trails 18-Hour Vehicular Movement Restriction
Residents across Ekiti State recorded mixed compliance with the 18-hour restriction on vehicular movement imposed ahead of Saturday's governorship election, even as security personnel were yet to arrive at several strategic locations and polling units as of early morning.
A monitoring exercise by SkyhighNews Hub showed that while many residents complied with the restriction by staying off the roads, however, a number of vehicles were still seen plying major roads in parts of Ado-Ekiti, Ikere-Ekiti and other communities.
Most of the vehicles observed belonged to private residents and a few essential service providers, while commercial activities in some areas appeared to be almost in full swing despite the movement restriction.
As of 7:30 a.m few minute to official commencement of the exercise, security operatives had yet to arrive at a number of polling units visited by Sky High News Hub in Ikere.
Despite the delayed deployment of security forces in some areas, major roads across the state remained relatively calm, with only light vehicular movement recorded. Security checkpoints were yet to be fully operational in several locations monitored at the time of filing this report.
The governorship election is expected to hold across the state's 16 local government areas, with security agencies and election officials expected to complete their deployment as the exercise progresses.
Sky High News Hub will continue to monitor developments and provide real-time updates throughout the election.
