An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Henrich Akomolafe, has expressed confidence that residents of Ikere-Ekiti will conduct themselves peacefully during Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election despite the high political stakes surrounding the exercise.
Speaking with newsmen at his polling unit in Ikere, Akomolafe urged eligible voters to come out and exercise their civic responsibility in an orderly manner, stressing that elections should be seen strictly as a democratic process rather than a trigger for violence or division.
He said the people of Ikere have a long-standing reputation for peaceful coexistence and political maturity, expressing optimism that the community would once again demonstrate respect for the rule of law throughout the electoral process.
According to him, while governorship elections often generate intense political competition, residents should resist every form of provocation capable of disrupting the peace of the town or undermining the credibility of the poll.
“Ikere has always been known for peace and political maturity, and I believe that reputation will be upheld during this election,” he said.
Ikere-Ekiti is widely regarded as a politically strategic town in the governorship election, as it boasts notable political figures including Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the incumbent deputy governor, Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye.
