Governor Dikko Radda has congratulated Nigerians on the nation’s 27th Democracy Day anniversary, describing June 12 as a powerful symbol of the country’s collective commitment to freedom, justice and democratic governance.
In a Democracy Day message issued on Thursday, the governor paid tribute to individuals whose sacrifices helped shape Nigeria’s democratic journey.
Radda specifically honoured the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, former President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua for their contributions to national development and democratic consolidation.
“Katsina is proud of these great Nigerians. They did not serve their state alone; they gave themselves fully to a nation they believed in,” the governor said.
“Their sacrifices remind us of what true leadership looks like and we carry their legacies as a guide.”
The governor also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s role in Nigeria’s democratic struggle, describing him as one of the prominent figures who championed democratic ideals during the June 12 movement.
Radda urged Nigerians to recommit themselves to the values of accountability, justice, inclusiveness and respect for the rule of law.
“Democracy is not just a system of government; it is a promise we make to one another as a people. Let us renew that promise and work together to build a Katsina and a Nigeria that every citizen can be proud of,” he stated.
The governor prayed for continued peace, unity and prosperity across the country.
