Chocolate City Sues Odumodublvck for ₦50m Over Alleged Staff Assault

Chocolate City has commenced legal proceedings against Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, following an alleged assault involving one of the music label’s employees at the 2025 Flytime Festival in Lagos.

The legal action, instituted at the High Court of Lagos State, Lagos Judicial Division, is seeking ₦50 million in damages over allegations arising from an incident said to have occurred backstage at the Eko Convention Centre on December 22, 2025.

The claimant, identified in the court documents as a Project Manager and Public Relations Officer of Chocolate City, said the incident occurred while he was performing his professional duties for an artiste signed to the label and booked to perform at the festival.

Chocolate City, in a statement, confirmed that it had commenced legal proceedings following the alleged incident involving its employee.

The company said the staff member had received medical attention and appropriate support, stressing that the welfare and safety of its employees remained a priority.

Chocolate City added that it was committed to pursuing the matter through the appropriate legal channels.

According to the statement of claim, the claimant was backstage with the artiste, the artiste’s personal security personnel, a bouncer and accredited event security officers when Odumodublvck arrived in the area.

The claimant alleged that the rapper interacted with several people backstage before approaching him and asking whether he or his brother worked for Chocolate City.

He further alleged that, without provocation or justification, the defendant struck him in the face and subsequently pushed him aggressively while allegedly issuing threats.

The claimant said the incident caused him physical pain, shock, fear and emotional distress.

The court documents further allege that a security bouncer intervened and attempted to restrain Odumodublvck and de-escalate the situation, but that the confrontation continued, with the claimant alleging that threats were made against him.

The claimant also alleged that an associate of the rapper, identified in the suit as “Shagba,” acted in concert with the defendant and poured an alcoholic drink on him.

According to the court filing, the claimant further alleged that Odumodublvck attempted to return and continue the confrontation after being restrained by security personnel.

The alleged incident reportedly caused panic backstage, prompting the claimant and members of his team to be evacuated to a secure location.

The claimant said he subsequently suffered recurrent headaches, facial and neck pain and swelling, general body pain and psychological trauma.

He further stated that he received treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where he was reportedly advised to observe strict rest and suspend professional engagements while recovering.

According to the suit, the claimant incurred about ₦2 million in medical expenses, ₦1 million in ancillary medical costs and an additional ₦1.5 million in out-of-pocket expenses.

The claimant also alleged that the injuries prevented him from attending several professional engagements during the festive period, including an overseas trip with a Chocolate City artiste.

He claimed that the disruption resulted in financial losses, delayed project deliverables, reduced productivity and missed professional opportunities.

The claimant is seeking ₦50 million in damages, which he says represents losses arising from the alleged assault and its consequences.

He is also expected to rely on contracts, booking confirmations and other correspondence in support of his claims during the trial.

The lawsuit follows previous reports of a police investigation and other legal proceedings linked to allegations arising from the same incident.

Chocolate City said it was treating the matter with the utmost seriousness and remained committed to seeking justice for its employee through due legal process.

Odumodublvck had not publicly responded to the lawsuit at the time of filing this report.

The allegations contained in the statement of claim remain unproven and are subject to determination by the court.
