ADC Primaries: Amaechi Cries Foul, Rejects “Concocted Results”

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the presidential primary election conducted by the African Democratic Congress, alleging widespread irregularities, voter disenfranchisement and manipulation of results during the exercise.

Amaechi, in a strongly worded statement posted on his X handle, he described the results being announced by the party as “concocted,” insisting that the process failed to meet the standards of fairness, transparency and credibility expected of the ADC.

“Following reports of widespread voter disenfranchisement in most parts of the country during the African Democratic Congress Presidential Primaries yesterday, I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” he stated.

The former Rivers State governor said he had earlier maintained that he would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.

According to him, the conduct of the exercise contradicted the values the ADC claimed to represent as an alternative political platform for Nigerians dissatisfied with the ruling government.

“I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values that the ADC had pledged to uphold, to rescue Nigerians from the impunity and gross mismanagement that our country is currently facing,” he said.

Amaechi alleged that a significant percentage of party members across the country were denied the opportunity to vote during the exercise.

“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he declared.

The former minister further criticised what he described as electoral malpractice within the party, accusing the ADC of engaging in the same practices it had previously condemned in Nigeria’s electoral process.

“A party that criticises the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results cannot itself be engaged in vote buying, writing of results and other electoral malpractices that lead to the disenfranchisement of party members. This is not acceptable,” Amaechi added.

His rejection of the process comes shortly after another presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, also distanced himself from the exercise over alleged irregularities.

Hayatu-Deen had earlier announced that he would not participate in the collation of results, citing concerns over the credibility of the process.

The controversy surrounding the ADC presidential primaries is expected to deepen internal tensions within the party as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general election.

The party leadership is yet to issue an official response to the allegations raised by the aggrieved aspirants.
