Zidane Agrees Deal to Become France Coach Until 2030 — Report

French football icon Zinedine Zidane has reportedly reached an agreement to become the next head coach of the France national team, with a contract said to run until June 2030.

The development was reported on Tuesday by renowned football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who claimed that the former Real Madrid manager had completed an agreement with the French Football Federation (FFF) and is expected to be formally unveiled in the coming days.

“Zinedine Zidane has signed as the new France coach until June 2030. The story has been confirmed as Zizou will be unveiled as the new head coach in the next days back to work with France,” Romano said in a post on Facebook.

If confirmed by the FFF, the appointment would mark Zidane's first senior managerial role at international level and would see him take charge of one of the world's most talented national teams.

Zidane is reportedly expected to lead France through the 2027 UEFA Nations League, the UEFA Euro 2028 campaign and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The reported move would also bring an end to Zidane's five-year absence from frontline management. The 54-year-old has been without a coaching job since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, following the conclusion of his second spell in charge of the Spanish giants.

During his two spells at the Santiago Bernabéu, Zidane established himself as one of the most successful managers in Real Madrid's history.

His greatest achievement came between 2016 and 2018, when he guided the club to an unprecedented three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles.

He also won two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups during his managerial career with the Spanish club.

Zidane's potential appointment to the France job has long been anticipated, particularly given his status as one of the country's greatest football figures and his previous success with the national team as a player.

A key member of the France side that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup on home soil, Zidane went on to become captain and one of the defining players of his generation.

His return to the national setup as coach would therefore represent a significant moment for French football.

Zidane has also previously expressed his ambition to manage the France national team, fuelling speculation over his future whenever questions arose about the position.

The reported agreement comes amid expectations that Didier Deschamps could leave his role after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Deschamps, who succeeded Laurent Blanc as France coach in 2012, has overseen one of the most successful periods in the country's football history. Under his leadership, France won the 2018 World Cup in Russia and reached the final of the 2022 tournament in Qatar, where they lost to Argentina on penalties.

The former France captain has remained at the helm for more than a decade, making any eventual transition a major decision for the FFF.

Zidane's reported arrival would offer continuity in terms of French football's winning tradition while also ushering in a new era under one of the country's most celebrated football personalities.
