Popular activist and social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM) on Monday led hundreds of supporters and members of the Ratel Movement in a peaceful protest through major parts of Ibadan over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The demonstration, which attracted widespread public attention, began beneath the Iwo Road Bridge opposite Terminal 1 before protesters marched through key routes in the bustling commercial district.

Carrying placards bearing messages demanding justice and improved security, participants called on security agencies and government authorities to intensify efforts toward securing the safe release of the victims.

The protest comes amid growing concern following the abduction of pupils and teachers from communities in Oriire Local Government Area, an incident that has heightened fears among residents and education stakeholders.

Addressing the crowd, VeryDarkMan said the demonstration was aimed at drawing national attention to the plight of the abducted children and their families. He maintained that Nigerians could not remain silent while innocent schoolchildren remained in captivity.

“The safety of our children must be treated as a national priority. Every day they remain in captivity is unacceptable,” he told supporters.

Many residents joined the march while others lined major roads to observe the procession as protesters chanted solidarity songs and demanded immediate action.

Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde assured residents that efforts were ongoing to secure the victims freedom.

Speaking on the development, the governor disclosed that the state government was actively engaging all relevant channels and had opened communication aimed at ensuring the safe return of the abducted children and teachers.

Makinde expressed confidence that the victims would be reunited with their families, while urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.

The protest reflects growing public frustration over recurring attacks on schools and communities, as citizens continue to demand stronger security measures to protect lives and safeguard education across the country.
