COLOMBIA 3, UZBEKISTAN 1 — Díaz Double Downs Debutants

Colombia marked a confident start to their World Cup campaign with a 3–1 victory over debutants Uzbekistan in a competitive Group K fixture.

The South Americans took control late in the first half when Luis Díaz delivered a superb pass for Daniel Muñoz, who finished clinically in the 41st minute to give Colombia the lead.

Uzbekistan responded well after the break and were rewarded in the 60th minute with their first-ever World Cup goal. A goalmouth scramble involving Camilo Vargas and Eldor Shomurodov allowed Abbosbek Fayzullaev to bundle the ball home.

However, parity lasted only five minutes. A mistake by Uzbekistan goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov allowed Díaz’s effort to trickle over the line, restoring Colombia’s lead in unfortunate fashion.

Colombia sealed the win later in the second half, with their experience and attacking quality proving decisive against a resilient but error-prone Uzbek side.
Despite defeat, Uzbekistan will take pride in scoring their first World Cup goal on their tournament debut.
