Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has called on Nigerian children to remain disciplined, hopeful and focused on building a better future as the country commemorates the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
The governor said children remain the foundation of Nigeria’s future and must be guided with the right moral upbringing, education and values needed to sustain a peaceful and progressive society.
Uzodimma made the remarks in a goodwill message released on Wednesday to mark Children’s Day, urging young people not to lose hope despite the economic and social difficulties confronting the country.
“As we commemorate Children’s Day, I celebrate our children who continue to look up to us for their dreams to come through and who continue to grow in truth and with the wisdom required to sustain the future we are securing for them,” the governor stated.
He encouraged children across Imo State and Nigeria to remain confident in their aspirations and avoid negative influences capable of derailing their future.
“To every child, I encourage you to remain hopeful, confident and focused,” he said. “Never depart from the moral upbringing of the family and society, for it remains the foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and progressive future for all.”
The governor stressed the importance of strong family values and responsible societal guidance, noting that children require not only educational opportunities but also ethical direction and emotional support to thrive.
Uzodimma also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare, education and future opportunities available to children and young people in the state.
He said governments, parents, teachers and community leaders all have a collective responsibility to create an environment where children can develop their talents, pursue their ambitions and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The governor further urged children to embrace hard work, discipline, tolerance and respect for one another, saying those values remain essential for leadership and nation-building.
Children’s Day is celebrated annually in Nigeria on May 27 to promote child welfare, education and the protection of children’s rights across the country.
