Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has urged Nigerians, particularly the Muslim faithful, to embrace the values of sacrifice, obedience, patriotism and unity as the country marks the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The governor said the significance of the Islamic festival goes beyond religious observance, stressing that the lessons of faith, selflessness and commitment to the common good are especially important at a period Nigeria is navigating economic reforms and social challenges.
Uzodimma, who is also Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, made the appeal in a goodwill message issued on Wednesday as Muslims across Nigeria joined millions around the world to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
He congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima and the Muslim community in Imo State and across the country, describing the festival as a reminder of the enduring values needed to strengthen national cohesion and collective progress.
“This sacred festival of sacrifice teaches us the enduring values of obedience, faith, selflessness, unity and commitment to the greater good of humanity,” the governor said.
He urged Nigerians to extend the spirit of sacrifice toward supporting the Federal Government’s economic and developmental policies, noting that reforms often demand patience and resilience before long-term benefits become visible.
“As our Muslim brothers and sisters commemorate this important occasion, I encourage them to extend the spirit of sacrifice in their patriotism to our great nation by continuing to support the economic reforms and developmental initiatives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he stated.
“Though the journey may demand patience and resilience, collective sacrifice and national unity remain essential to building a stronger, more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria for present and future generations.”
The governor said Nigeria’s future would depend largely on the ability of citizens to remain united despite political, ethnic and religious differences.
He also prayed for peace, stability and prosperity across the country while wishing Muslims a joyful and spiritually fulfilling Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
