Governor Dikko Radda of Kastina State has commissioned 152 housing units built for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Jibia Local Government Area.

The housing estate forms part of a broader stabilisation and recovery programme implemented through collaboration between the Katsina State Government, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the German Government through GIZ and the Government of Norway.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Radda described the project as evidence of what strategic partnerships can achieve.

“What was then a vision is today a living reality. Recall vividly that we gathered in October 2024 to flag off these projects. Today, they stand completed as a testament to hope, partnership and collective determination,” he said.

Beyond the housing project, the governor announced that 500 residents of Jibia had received grants worth ₦500 million through the Katsina State Enterprises Development Agency to revive businesses and restore livelihoods.

Radda said Jibia had not recorded any deliberate attack or kidnapping incident over the past year.

“Farmers have returned to their fields. Markets are reopening. Children are back in school. Prices of staple foods are easing,” he stated.

The governor said the progress demonstrates that security interventions combined with development initiatives can produce lasting results.

He urged residents to protect the fragile peace and support efforts aimed at consolidating stability across the area.

UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria, Elsie G. Attafuah, praised the Katsina State Government for demonstrating strong commitment through co-financing and active participation.

“Today’s investments are not the end of the story. They are the foundation for what comes next. They are helping create the conditions for recovery, resilience and long-term development,” Attafuah said.
