President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of Dr. Zainab Marwa as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The request was conveyed in a letter read on the floor of the Senate on Thursday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary. According to the President, the nomination was made pursuant to the provisions of Section 2(2) of the NDDC Establishment Act.

Tinubu explained that Dr. Marwa has been nominated to represent Nigeria's North-East geopolitical zone on the commission's governing board. The appointment follows the resignation of Abdulrazak Namdas, who previously occupied the position. Namdas stepped down from the board on March 30, 2026, to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State ahead of the next electoral cycle.

In the letter addressed to the Senate, President Tinubu noted that the nomination was intended to fill the vacancy created by Namdas' departure.

"The Senate is invited to note that the appointment of Dr. Zainab Marwa is to fill a vacuum created by the resignation of the immediate past member of the board, Honourable Namdas Abdulrazak, from the North-East zone," the President wrote.

He expressed confidence in the nominee's ability to contribute meaningfully to the commission's mandate and appealed to lawmakers to give the nomination expeditious consideration.

Following the reading of the correspondence, Senate President Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission for screening and legislative review.

The committee has been mandated to conduct the necessary assessment and submit its report to the Senate within one to two weeks.
