Candidates, former aspirants and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Imo State have unanimously endorsed the party’s recently concluded primaries, describing the exercise as transparent, credible and reflective of internal democratic principles.
The endorsement came during a post-primary stakeholders meeting convened by the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre in Owerri.
The gathering brought together candidates, former contestants, party executives and grassroots leaders from across the state in what party leaders described as a reconciliation and unity meeting ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing attendees, Uzodimma congratulated party members on the successful conduct of the congresses and direct primaries, urging all stakeholders to move beyond internal contests and focus on strengthening the party for future electoral battles.
The governor emphasized that political contests inevitably produce winners and losers, but insisted that collective party interests must take precedence over individual ambitions.
He called on aspirants who did not secure tickets to embrace reconciliation and continue supporting the APC, noting that leadership positions are opportunities for service rather than personal entitlement.
Uzodimma also used the occasion to reaffirm support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing confidence that the APC would record significant victories across Imo State in 2027.
State APC Chairman, Austin Onyedebelu, praised party members for the peaceful conduct of the primaries and commended the governor’s leadership in ensuring a transparent process.
Several candidates and former aspirants who spoke during the meeting publicly endorsed the outcome of the primaries and pledged support for the party’s candidates.
Among them was APC Imo East senatorial candidate Alex Mbata, who urged members to unite behind the party and work towards securing victory at all levels.
Former senatorial aspirants, including Chijioke Cadoru and Gloria Akobundu, also expressed confidence in the credibility of the process and pledged loyalty to the party.
The meeting ended with stakeholders unanimously committing to strengthen APC structures across the state and mobilize support for all party candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
