Oyo Govt Demolishes Kidnappers’ Hideout Linked to Adelabu’s Sister’s Abduction

The Oyo State Government on Monday demolished a three-bedroom bungalow allegedly used as a hideout by kidnappers involved in the abduction of the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her two children.

The property, located in the Lako Community along the Aiyegun–Anaye Road corridor of Ibadan, was brought down by officials of the Oyo State Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, accompanied by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.

The demolition forms part of a broader state strategy aimed at dismantling criminal infrastructure and denying kidnappers and other violent offenders safe operational bases within Oyo State.

Government officials who supervised the exercise said the action was intended not only to punish criminality but also to serve as a deterrent to individuals and groups seeking to use residential properties as centres for kidnapping, extortion and other violent crimes.

The development follows the recent abduction of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of Chief Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.

The victims were kidnapped on June 3, 2026, at Elewura in the Challenge area of Ibadan while carrying out their daily activities, an incident that triggered widespread concern across the state and renewed calls for stronger security measures.

Security agencies subsequently launched an intensive operation that led to the rescue of the victims and the neutralisation of suspected members of the kidnapping gang.

Authorities believe the demolished structure played a significant role in the planning and execution of the criminal operation.

Officials said intelligence gathered during investigations linked the property to the activities of the suspected kidnappers, prompting the government's decision to order its demolition.

The Oyo State Government maintained that the action demonstrates its determination to confront insecurity decisively and dismantle the support structures that enable criminal organisations to thrive.

According to government sources, the state will continue to identify and target facilities used as operational centres for criminal activities, while ensuring that those responsible are prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The government further reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security architecture across the state through collaboration with security agencies, intelligence gathering and community-based surveillance mechanisms.

Residents were also encouraged to provide timely information to security agencies, with authorities stressing that public cooperation remains critical in the ongoing fight against kidnapping and violent crime.

Officials noted that the demolition sends a clear signal that Oyo State will not tolerate the use of private properties as sanctuaries for criminal elements and that anyone found aiding or facilitating such activities would face the full weight of the law.
