President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and its operatives for dismantling what he described as a major drug syndicate and a multi-million dollar narcotics production network operating within Nigeria.
The President’s commendation followed a major operation by the anti-narcotics agency that led to the seizure of illicit drugs and chemical substances valued at over $360 million, alongside the arrest of several foreign and local collaborators linked to the criminal network.
In a statement released on Thursday, President Tinubu praised the NDLEA for what he described as its professionalism, courage and resilience in confronting organised drug trafficking and narcotics-related crimes.
According to the President, the successful operation demonstrates Nigeria’s determination not to allow criminal syndicates and drug traffickers undermine the country’s future and national security.
“The operation sends a strong signal that Nigeria will not surrender its future to criminal syndicates and narcotics traffickers,” the President stated.
Tinubu warned that West Africa was increasingly becoming a major transit hub in the global narcotics trade, describing the development as a growing threat to the safety of citizens, regional stability and the future of young people across the continent.
He stressed the need for sustained regional and national collaboration in tackling illicit drug trafficking networks and organised criminal operations.
“We must confront this danger with courage, coordination, and consistency,” the President said.
The President further urged Nigerians to actively support law enforcement agencies by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious movements and criminal activities within their communities.
According to him, the fight against illicit drugs requires collective national responsibility and cooperation from members of the public.
Tinubu also acknowledged the sacrifices and dedication of NDLEA operatives involved in anti-drug operations across the country, noting that their efforts continue to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security framework.
He described the agency’s latest operation as another significant milestone in the government’s broader efforts to combat transnational organised crime and protect vulnerable youths from the devastating effects of substance abuse and narcotics trafficking.
“The fight against illicit drugs is a fight for the soul, safety, and future of our nation,” the President added.
The President reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting security and anti-narcotics agencies through improved coordination, intelligence gathering and strategic enforcement measures aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating within and beyond Nigeria’s borders.
He also reiterated the administration’s resolve to continue strengthening institutions responsible for safeguarding public health, national security and social stability.
