Mamelodi Sundowns have been crowned champions of Africa for the second time after holding FAR Rabat to a 1-1 draw in Morocco to secure a 2-1 aggregate victory in the CAF Champions League final.

The South African side completed the job at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Sunday night after taking a narrow 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Pretoria.

The final delivered high drama as FAR Rabat pushed aggressively in front of their passionate home supporters in search of a comeback.

The Moroccan side took the lead in the 40th minute through Mohamed Hrimat, who calmly converted from the penalty spot to level the aggregate score and ignite celebrations inside the packed stadium. However, Sundowns responded at a crucial moment just before halftime when midfielder Teboho Mokoena unleashed a superb strike in stoppage time to restore the South African club’s aggregate advantage. That goal ultimately proved decisive in the contest.

FAR Rabat continued to dominate possession and mounted relentless pressure in the second half as they searched desperately for another breakthrough. The defining moment came when the Moroccan side won another penalty, offering Hrimat the opportunity to draw his side level once again.

But Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams produced a heroic save to deny the effort and preserve his team’s advantage. The save shifted momentum back toward the visitors, who defended resolutely during the closing stages to secure the continental title.

The triumph marks Sundowns’ second CAF Champions League crown and represents a major achievement for coach Miguel Cardoso, who finally captured the elusive continental title after previous disappointments.

Throughout the final, Sundowns displayed remarkable discipline and organisation, with defenders Khuliso Mudau, Keanu Cupido, Ndamane and Divine Lunga playing crucial roles in resisting FAR Rabat’s attacking pressure.

The victory further strengthens South Africa’s growing influence in African club football and reinforces Sundowns’ reputation as one of the continent’s dominant sides.
