French President Emmanuel Macron has announced the immediate deployment of 85 specialised rescue workers to Venezuela following the devastating twin earthquakes that have left hundreds dead and injured.
The deployment forms part of a growing international response to the disaster, which has triggered large-scale rescue operations and humanitarian assistance efforts across affected areas.
In a statement posted on social media platform X on Thursday, Macron said France was prepared to support Venezuelan authorities and work alongside European partners in responding to the crisis.
"France stands ready, together with its European partners, to provide assistance to the affected populations in response to the needs expressed by the Venezuelan authorities," Macron said.
He added that a team of 85 French rescue personnel trained in search-and-rescue operations and debris clearance would be dispatched immediately.
The French deployment comes as countries around the world mobilise support for Venezuela following the powerful earthquakes that struck on Wednesday.
Emergency response teams have been working around the clock to locate survivors trapped beneath collapsed buildings and provide assistance to thousands affected by the disaster.
