
Labour Party Shifts All 2027 Primaries to May 30 in Single-Day Exercise, Citing Eid el-Kabir and Democracy Day

Labour Party's National Publicity Secretary Ken Eluma Asogwa announced on Thursday, 21 May 2026, that all party primaries would now hold simultaneously on Saturday, 30 May 2026 a compressed schedule that raises logistical and operational questions. The LP, led by Abia Governor Alex Otti as National Leader, had pegged its presidential form at a combined ₦50 million. Otti himself receives the forms free of charge.
The party's National Screening Committee chaired by former Finance Minister Nenadi Esther Usman had already been constituted and is mandated to screen all aspirants in line with the Labour Party constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and INEC regulations. The final list of cleared candidates was originally expected 26 May; timing remains under review.
