INEC Warns Oyo Residents Against Last-Minute Rush as CVR Ends July 26

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State has urged eligible residents to take advantage of the remaining days of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, warning against waiting until the last minute to complete the process.

The commission said the third and final phase of the CVR exercise, which was extended by two weeks from July 11, 2026, will close on Sunday, July 26.

In a media release dated July 23 and signed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Prof. Adeniran Rahmon Tella, INEC said the extension was approved to provide more opportunities for eligible Nigerians to register and update their voter information ahead of the 2027 general election.

The commission said the exercise is open to Nigerians who have attained the age of 18 and those who have never registered as voters.

Existing voters who wish to transfer their registration to another location, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) or correct personal information in their voter records are also eligible to participate.

Tella urged eligible residents who have yet to complete their registration or update their records not to wait until the final days of the exercise, warning that doing so could lead to congestion, long queues and avoidable disappointment.

He also drew attention to INEC's Self-Service Online Registration Portal, which allows first-time voters to initiate and complete the registration process without having to appear physically at an INEC office.

According to the REC, the online platform is part of the commission's efforts to make voter registration more accessible and convenient while reducing the need for physical visits by prospective registrants.

Tella therefore called on all eligible residents of Oyo State to use the remaining window to complete their registration or update their voter information before the July 26 deadline.

He reaffirmed INEC's commitment to ensuring a transparent, inclusive and credible voter registration process ahead of the 2027 general election, urging eligible citizens to exercise their civic responsibility by ensuring they are properly registered before the deadline.
