INEC Opens 2026 Recruitment, Applications Close July 27 — How to Apply

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for vacancies across various cadres as the commission moves to strengthen its workforce and institutional capacity ahead of future electoral activities.

According to a recruitment notice published on the commission’s official recruitment portal, applications opened on July 20, 2026 and will close on July 27, 2026.

The exercise covers positions across Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12, with opportunities available in professional, administrative and electoral registration cadres.

INEC said the recruitment is part of efforts to improve its capacity to effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities, including electoral administration, voter registration, election logistics and data management.

The commission urged interested Nigerians to submit their applications only through its official recruitment portal, stressing that the process is completely free.

It also warned prospective applicants against individuals or organisations demanding money in exchange for recruitment opportunities, advising candidates to be wary of fraudsters.

Positions available

The vacancies are grouped into three broad categories, covering professional and administrative positions as well as electoral registration roles.

The Professional Cadre, which covers Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12, includes positions such as Accountant, Clinical Officer, Lawyer, ICT Officer, Engineer and Quantity Surveyor.

Candidates applying for professional positions are expected to possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification relevant to the position. Depending on the specific role, some vacancies may also require a master's degree, relevant professional certifications and a minimum of two years' post-qualification experience.

Applicants for positions where NYSC documentation is applicable must also possess a valid National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge or exemption certificate.

For the Administrative Officer II position, also designated as Registration Area Officer, on Grade Level 08, applicants are required to possess a bachelor's degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or an equivalent qualification in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences.

Candidates for the position are also expected to demonstrate competence in data management, record keeping and the use of Microsoft Office and other information and communication technology applications.

INEC is equally recruiting Executive Officers, designated as Registration Officers, on Grade Level 07.

Applicants for this category must possess a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or an equivalent qualification obtained from a recognised institution. Good computer literacy, organisational skills and effective communication abilities are also required.

General requirements for applicants

Beyond the specific academic and professional qualifications attached to each vacancy, INEC has outlined general conditions that applicants must satisfy.

Candidates are required to provide a valid certificate of state of origin endorsed by the chairman or secretary of their local government.

Applicants must also be medically certified as physically and mentally fit by a government medical officer and must not be more than 35 years old at the time of application.

The commission further requires applicants to demonstrate good character and integrity and to have no criminal record.

Candidates are expected to show discipline and a commitment to public service. Successful applicants must also be willing to serve in any part of Nigeria where they may be deployed.

How to apply for the INEC 2026 recruitment

Interested and qualified Nigerians are required to apply online through the official INEC recruitment portal.

Applicants are expected to create an account using their personal information, email address and National Identification Number (NIN).

After creating an account, candidates must verify their email addresses before proceeding to select their preferred cadre and the specific vacancy for which they wish to apply.

Applicants are then required to complete the application process and upload the necessary supporting documents.

The documents required include a recent passport photograph, birth certificate or declaration of age, relevant O'Level certificate, degree, HND, ND or NCE certificate, local government identification certificate and NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate, where applicable.

INEC advised candidates to carefully review all information entered before submitting their applications.

The commission specifically warned that once an applicant selects a vacancy, the choice cannot be changed.

Only candidates who are successfully shortlisted will proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process.

INEC urged prospective applicants to rely on information published through its official channels and to avoid third parties claiming to have the power to influence the recruitment process.

With the application window running from July 20 to July 27, 2026, qualified Nigerians interested in joining the commission have been advised to complete their applications before the deadline.
