Ekiti Government Denies Involvement in Alleged Abduction, Arrest of APC Governorship Aspirant Olawunmi

The Ekiti State Government has denied any involvement in the alleged abduction, arrest, or detention of Mrs. Abimbola Olajumoke Olawunmi, an All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant whose disappearance after court proceedings in Abuja has generated public concern.

In a public disclaimer issued by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dayo Apata, SAN, the state government described reports linking it to the incident as false and misleading.

Apata said the government neither ordered nor had prior knowledge of any police action concerning Olawunmi.

“The Ekiti State Government categorically denies any involvement in the alleged abduction, police arrest, or detention of Mrs. Olawunmi, and states clearly that it had no hand in the incident,” the statement read.

The Attorney General further stated that the Ekiti State Government remains committed to the rule of law and respects the personal liberty and fundamental rights of all citizens.

He added that law enforcement agencies carry out their constitutional duties independently and without interference or control from the state government.

The government therefore urged members of the public and the media to disregard reports associating it with the alleged arrest or detention of Olawunmi.

Olawunmi was reportedly declared missing after leaving the Court of Appeal in Abuja, where she had gone to obtain Certified True Copies of court documents relating to her legal challenge against the outcome of the APC governorship primary in Ekiti State.
