Security agencies have assured residents of Ekiti State that extensive measures have been put in place to ensure a peaceful and orderly governorship election scheduled for Saturday.
The assurance was given by the Supervising Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the election, Mustapha Fayoade, during a meeting with police personnel and other security stakeholders in Ado Ekiti.
Fayoade said adequate arrangements had been concluded to safeguard voters, electoral officials and sensitive materials before, during and after the poll.
He urged officers deployed for election duty to maintain professionalism and operate strictly within the law.
"Security operatives must exhibit the highest level of professionalism, discipline and respect for the rule of law in the discharge of their duties," he said.
The senior police officer also stressed the importance of collaboration among security agencies involved in the operation, noting that effective coordination would be critical to maintaining peace throughout the electoral process.
Fayoade appealed to political parties, candidates, supporters and voters to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid actions capable of disrupting the election.
"We urge all stakeholders to cooperate fully with security agencies, remain law-abiding and contribute to a peaceful electoral environment," he said.
The Supervising DIG is working alongside Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olanrewaju Ogunlowo, who was also deployed by Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to oversee election security operations.
Both officers were assigned to coordinate security activities and help ensure a credible electoral process across the state.
Earlier, Ekiti State Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle said a comprehensive security framework had already been activated to guarantee a smooth and hitch-free exercise.
The governorship election is expected to test the preparedness of security agencies as residents head to the polls to elect a new governor.
