
Tems Opens Up About Nerves After Star-Studded Obama Centre Performance

Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has spoken about the nerves she experienced while performing at the opening ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
The award-winning singer joined an international lineup of celebrated artists that included Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen and John Legend during the high-profile event.
Tems, who appeared on stage in a vibrant red gown, described the experience as both humbling and memorable, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to perform alongside some of the world's most respected musicians.
Addressing guests during the ceremony, she thanked former US President Barack Obama, former First Lady Michelle Obama and their family for the invitation.
“I am so blessed and honoured to be here… this is you, everyone, here, to Mr. and Mrs. Obama, to Sandra and all the family,” she said.
Following the event, Tems took to social media to explain that she had been overwhelmed by nerves during her appearance.
The singer acknowledged making an error while addressing the audience, including incorrectly referring to members of the Obama family.
“Lord knows I was nervous! Please forgive me!!!” she wrote.
Despite the moment, fans praised the singer's performance and her growing global profile, which continues to place Nigerian music on some of the world's biggest stages.
The appearance adds another milestone to Tems international career, which has seen her earn Grammy recognition, collaborate with major global artists and perform at prestigious events across the world.
